The African Leadership University is a network of tertiary institutions in Mauritius and Rwanda, offering bachelor’s degree programs. ALU’s learning experience allows students to continually apply the skills they have learnt, both inside and outside the classroom. Year 1 is a foundation year consisting of a core curriculum on data and decisions, communication for impact, entrepreneurial leadership and a projects course that simulates work in the real world. Each ALU student completes a 12-month internship program, with an extensive network of employers across Africa and the world.
ALU offers the following bachelor’s degree programs with honors:
● Business management
● Social Sciences
● Entrepreneurial Leadership
● Computer Science
● Global Challenges
● International Business and Trade

ALU offers generous scholarships through various scholarship programs, including the MasterCard Foundation. The ideal ALU student is deeply motivated to become a catalyst for change—an entrepreneurial leader. Entrepreneurial leaders solve complex problems in creative ways, even with limited resources. They achieve more than anyone thinks is possible, with fewer resources than anyone thinks is possible. Africa and the world at large need these kinds of leaders in government, civil society, and in business.
However, entrepreneurial leaders are not necessarily entrepreneurs (as in ‘founders of companies’). An entrepreneurial leader can be a scientist, a government servant, a corporate, or NGO operator. Entrepreneurial leaders are not bound by status quo, they are creative, nimble, resilient, imbued with faith, stubborn about their vision, visionary and humble; the ideal ALU student is one who has a high potential and the deep desire to develop and fully embody these characteristics.
