BACHELORS DEGREE SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENTS 29 YEARS AND BELOW

United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa) in Kenya, has partnered with the Mastercard Foundation in its global Scholars Program. This initiative will offer academically talented youth from Africa facing financial, gender, displacement, or disability constraints an opportunity to access world class university education. This scholarship is unique due to the age requirement of 29 years and below for applicants in 11 approved full time undergraduate or bachelor's degree programs.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU-Africa will provide full-cost scholarships to young Africans who are first-time undergraduate degree-seeking applicants. -By completion of their studies, scholars will be required to lead changes in their communities and contribute to meaningful transformation across the continent, having been equipped with internationally recognized and locally applicable qualifications.
ELIGIBILITY
1. Only youth not exceeding 29 years old in the following categories qualify:
Young women and men. Young women are strongly encouraged to apply
Refugees and displaced youth;
Youth with disabilities.
2. Scholars must demonstrate the following qualities:
Academic talent: They must value learning and have a personal motivation to complete their education. Must meet the university admissions requirement as per the Kenya Commission for University Education or its equivalent.
Commitment to giving back: Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to improving their communities through previous and/or past engagements with community outreach activities.
Leadership potential: Scholars must show commitment to becoming change makers, role models and mentors who embrace ethical leadership.
3. Must be interested in, and meet USIU admissions criteria and academic qualifications to undertake, any of the approved 11 undergraduate degree program for the Scholars Program at USIU-Africa as follows:

UNIVERSITY APPLICATION
Visit https://www.usiu.ac.ke/undergraduate-application-procedures/ to see the process for applying for entrance into acacemic program of interest and download the application form. Each program has its own application deadline, which should be noted. The application form must be submitted together with:
A Non-refundable Application Fee (KES. 3,000 or USD $50)
Complete and signed application form (Please observe the deadlines).
Originals & a copy of all academic transcripts, diplomas or certificates (All originals, where necessary, will be returned
High School Leaving Certificate.
One recent passport size photograph (write your name on the reverse side).
Copy of the National Identity Card or Birth Certificate.
Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) Equation Certificate
Entry requirements can be viewed here: https://www.usiu.ac.ke/entrance-eligibility-requirements/. International applicants are considered for admission on the same basis as local applicants and evaluated in accordance with the International Academic Credentials Handbook, but must also demonstrate English proficiency. All students for whom English is not a first language are required to show English proficiency before beginning an academic program.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
Interested applicants can download the application forms from www.usiu.ac.ke/mcf-scholarship. The scholarship application is free. Submit completed application forms by email as an attachment, ensuring that the scanned copy of the scholarship application form and all required documents are clearly legible and sent to: mcfsp-applications@usiu.ac.ke. Any queries can be directed through e-mail at mcfsp@usiu.ac.ke.
Completed application and supporting documents should be sent to mcfsp-applications@usiu.ac.ke by Friday, November 27, 2020. The selection committee will review all applications carefully on a continuous basis and nominate finalists by the deadline. All finalists will be interviewed either in person or by phone in January 18 -29, 2021. Communications with the selected Scholars will be done from February 15– 17, 2021.
A completed application should include the following:
1. Application letter stating the following: a) Personal Background including family financial position. b) Why you chose USIU-Africa. c) Where you see yourself after graduation.
2. Copies of academic documents (High school certificates);
3. Recommendation from your former sponsoring organization, a Head Teacher or Career advisor who has known you for at least two years;
4. One recent Passport size photograph;
5. A copy of your Birth certificate, National Identity Card or Passport and/or refugee travel document;
6. A copy of refugee identity document (where applicable).
Complete applications should be delivered/emailed only ONCE. Incomplete applications, duplicate application submissions from the same person will lead to disqualification of the applicant.
SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars at USIU-Africa will receive holistic support which includes:
Tuition and functional fees;
Laptops, books and other learning materials;
Reasonable accommodation and meals;
Medical insurance;
Stipend;
Transport to and from home;
Access to leadership training;
Access to entrepreneurial training;
Psycho-social support, career counselling and mentorship;
Disability needs will be reasonably catered for.
